music magazine connotation

When making this magazine front cover, I started by adding margin lines that keep my text in-line so that it doesnt run over the edge and look untidy. Having a neat and organised layout will attract more of the audience. I used a strip when making this magazine to draw in the audience to my catchy phrase which was 'Hear the Music, See the Music, Live the Music'. Using a catchy phrase like this gives the audience an idea of what is inside the magazine. If you use a catchy phrase like I did, they will believe that the magazine is good as the 'phrase says it all'. I used different fonts, font sizes and colours to attract the audience. I embollished my text so that it looks visually attractive for the audience. I used drop shaddows to make certain information stand out. I used all of these skills when making my final product, magazine front cover and double page spread for global warming. Making this magazine has help while n making my final piece and give me some idea on the skills I could use when making it. Skills such as downloading different fonts, drop shaddows on font, placing images in to photoshop, putting drop shaddows on boxes and using margins correctly.

week 5 - monitoring blog

This was the last week of making my final fished product. I added little images that I found on google and dragged on to photoshop. I put an outline on them to make them look visually attractive and make them stand out from the rest of the text and the background. I also added a barcode to maake my magazine front cover look more realistic. If I was to change my front cover I would of added more catchy slogans to attract my target audience of 16-19 year olds.

On my final week, I added the image of the ear, mouth, foot and legs with quotes underneath saying things such as 'Listen out for Global Warming!'. This is put near the top tips also to guide the audience on what the text is about. The subtitle on the image named 'What can you do to help?' is over lapped to suggest the state of mind or lifestyle of my target audience. To improve this I would add more colour and more detail to make it look more visually attractive.

week 4 - monitoring blog

In this week, I added text embollisment to make my text stand out. Having the words stand out seperates the text from the background. Also, having the text on the left hand side of the page takes the power off the model, so the text looks more important. For some of the text, I put a black outline as its very define and for some I have put a totally different colour. For example, the blue box with the yellow outline. This makes the magazine look more visually attractive and it could make someone want to buy it if it looks better.

This week, I simply looked at different ways of seperating my text. I looked at plain straight lines, dotted lines and dashed lines. I eventually chose to use dash lines as it seperates the text, guides the audience on where to read next and what column to go to and also gives it a neat layout. I added a black box with the words 'Top 10 Tips' on it to use as a subheading and to tell the audience what the following bit of text is about.

week 3 - monitoring blog

This week on my front cover, I added  more font, using the font tool. I changed the size and colour by using the tools that are located on the top of the page when the text is highlighted. Some text I rotated so it looks more effective and it could represent the state of mind of my target audience of the age 16-19. I used the colours blue and pink so they have a link with the title. I chose the other bright colours such as yellow and white as they stand out compared to the background. Yellow, just as well as orange could indicate to happiness, joy and energy as it’s the colour of sunshine. It could also be associated with cheerfulness. Yellow can also be seen as an unstable and spontaneous colour. White associates with goodness and innocence and considered to be the colour of perfection. White can also mean successfulness, cleanliness and purity. It’s thought of as a cold or cool colour because of snow.

This week on InDesign, I added my text by going on to 'file' then 'place' and found my document with my article write up in. I then clicked on each box to add text in it. The text continued as I went into each box, carrying on with no missing text problems. I then changed some of the text colour by clicking on 'colour fill' and selecting the same colour as the models top and the title so they all have a link. I added a Drop cap to assist my target audience on where to start reading. The columns are set out also to assist the audience on where to read.

week 2 - monitoring blog

This week I add a font outline to my title to make it look bolder and stand out to my audience. Also, I used the 'Magic Wand Tool' to cut around the models head so that she was in front of the title. I then copied and pasted her head on a different layer. This tells the audience that the model has power over the magazine. I used colours that clash together as they could represent the way my target audience of 16-19 years old live. Pink symbolises wealth, power and ambition. It’s quite an independed colour and isn’t used must nature wise. It could also be a colour that associates with frustration. Blue, the colour of the sky and sea are seen as depth. It symbolises trust, loyalty and confidence. Blue is usually seen as a masculine colour. It can be associated with softness, healing and understanding.

This week i added a title 'What is Global Warming?', a kicker (underneath the title) and added a label called 'Footprint Campaign' to make the magazine double page spread look realistic. I used these colours for the title as they are the same colour as the models top and braclet so the model stand out as well as the title. The rest of the text is in black as it is associated with death, evil and mystery. It's seen as a fearful colour but donates strength. Black is a smart colour to wear but can be seen as an aggressive colour.

week 1 - monitoring blog

I started off by opening photoshop up and selecting my page to A4 size. Then I dragged my image from my documents to photoshop. Then added margins at the side of the page to control the text line and to make sure all text is in-line so it looks more presentable. I clicked on the add text tool and wrote 'Footprint' as my title then added colour by clicking on the colour box at the top on the page. (colour box could only be selected when text is highlighted.) I chose the model to wear this colour because orange is associated with happiness and joy because of the sunshine. I think orange represents creativity and success. Orange can be seen as an aggressive colour because it has a tint of red in it. However, dark orange can mean distrust and lighter orange could mean desire or thirst of action.

I started off by opening InDesign. I added text boxes in which to add my text later in the process. I also clicked 'file' and went down to place and found the image added on here (above). I dragged my image using the 'shift' button so the image doesnt stretch to fit the size of my page.

Manual Focus features
x

I first used basic manual focus features in textiles.  Then i went on to using it more in detail and technically in media to make my pictures look sharp by changing the rage of the focus modes.

Shutter Speed
x

I used shutter speed techniques when i was taking photos, depending on the light at the location. For example, if i went to take a photograph outside and it was dark, i would use a slow shutter speed. Also, having a slow shutter speed can change the motion of blur which means the image blurs through movement.
Aperture control
x

I used aperture control when taking my photographs to control the light in the image. The larger the diameter of the aperture the more light reaches the image. I used aperture 4.5 so that my lighting wasn’t too dull or too bright.

ISO Control
x

I used different ISO speed controls when taking my photographs as it controls the speed of the cells which react with the light. I used a low speed ISO control because when i had taken my photographs it was day time and quite bright.

A tripod
x

I used a tripod when taking my photographs because i haven’t got a steady hand and a tripod gives you the opportunity to take image on a stand to prevent it from blurring by the movement of you hand.

External flash
x

I used external flash when taking my photographs as it brightens the image. For example, if i used external flash when doing a side lighting shot, the opposite cheek to what the camera is facing will get a slight shadow.

Have you aver used Photoshop ever before?
x

I used this skill briefly in my textiles lesson but more in detail and technically in media to make my pictures look more effective.

Text control
x

I have used text control on both, my front cover and my double page spread, to simply add text and rotate and move it. I also changed the colour and font of my text by using the ‘text colour’ box and by downloading different fonts off http://www.dafont.com/.

Layers
x

I used layers throughout my project on Photoshop. I started with a background and then added a new layer for each thing I did so that if I made a mistake it could easily be removed. If I didn’t make a new layer every time I added something I would have to delete the previous actions made to start over and could destroy my original image. Also, if I didn’t use layers I wouldn’t be able to add different styles to texts and images.
Opacity control

x

Shape creation
x

I used shape creation when adding text to my front cover and double page spread to empathise text and to make it stand out for the target audience. The text I put in boxes was the important parts that I want the target audience to see first.
Brightness and contrast control

Feathering
x

I used the feathering control tool when cutting around my models head and replacing it on a different layer so she was on top of the title but because I copied and pasted it, there was a slight colour difference between the image background colour and the colour of the title so I needed to feather the colours in together to make it look as if I didn’t copy and paste it.

Magnetic lasso, polygon lasso tool
x

I used the magnetic lasso tool when cut around my models head to copy and paste it in front of the title. I clicked on the outline of the model and used the computer mouse to drag the magnetic tool around her.

Cropping tool

Retouch tool
x

When I looked at the photographs of my model when designing my front cover, I noticed her lips looked drained. Therefore, I added a slight bit of colour using the retouch tool and adding a new layer.
